Storage, Delivery, and Insurance Considerations

Owning physical metal means taking care of it. It is worth deciding how you will do that before an order arrives, not after.

When your order is delivered

  • Know what is coming: your order confirmation states what you bought, and tracking is provided when it ships.
  • Open the package promptly and check the contents against your confirmation.
  • Leave bars in their assay cards and certified coins in their holders. Removing them can affect how they are valued later.
  • Contact us promptly if anything is not as described.

Storing at home

Home storage keeps your metals close and under your control. It also makes security and discretion your responsibility. People who store at home commonly use a quality safe, tell very few people, and think about fire and water as well as theft.

Storing elsewhere

Bank safe-deposit boxes and specialist depositories are alternatives. Each has its own costs, access hours and terms, and the contents of a safe-deposit box are not usually insured by the bank. Read the terms before choosing.

Insurance

Do not assume your homeowner’s or renter’s policy covers precious metals in full. Many policies limit cover for bullion and coins unless they are specifically scheduled. Ask your insurer what is covered, up to what amount, and what records they would need.

Records, and the people who come after you

  • Keep your order confirmations and a simple list of what you own.
  • Make sure someone you trust knows that the metals exist and where the records are.
  • Consider how your heirs would identify and sell what they inherit; our buyback page explains one route.
